Happy Labor Day!As with all activities on Lake Seminole, the County has had to obtain permits to harvest the primrose willow. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) has said they will expedite the permit but cannot make our September 7th request. At this time the plans are to begin harvesting on Monday September 11th; however, you will see several pieces of equipment set up on Weds. Sept. 6th. The primary staging area will be at the dead end of 110th Av. A large conveyor will be set there to allow harvested vegetation to be loaded into dump trucks. The vegetation removal will be completed primarily to ensure all property owners have access to the lake. There will be at least two harvesters working until the work is complete. While performing a vegetation survey of the lake, I documented a lot of native vegetation coming in on its own. This native vegetation provides great habitat for the sport fish and also take up nutrients from the water so make sure to ask before removing any thing. A phone call and site visit are free, enforcement actions are not. Another reminder, on Saturday (Sept 2) there were about a dozen jetski type vessels on the water. Several were observed running right up to the vegetation. ALL vegetated areas are no wake zones within 100 feet of the plants. I have scheduled the replacement of all the no wake and caution buoys on the lake as most have disappeared. This will take about 60 days. If you have any additional questions please e-mail or call.
